Overview
The 1090 Women & Child Helpline is a state-run initiative aimed at preventing crimes against women and children, from dowry fraud to cyber harassment and trafficking. Rotten Tree Productions created a four-film campaign to bring these issues to light through relatable, real-world scenarios. Each film showcases how 1090 intervenes and restores safety when victims have nowhere else to turn.
What was the challenge or idea?
The campaign needed to portray sensitive, real-world crimes without sensationalism.
The biggest challenges were:
Showing criminal behaviours truthfully yet respectfully
Covering four distinct crime types in a cohesive tone
Managing multiple casts, locations, and tones in a 2-day shoot
Ensuring each film felt grounded, believable, and culturally accurate
Inspiring trust in the helpline while educating viewers on red flags

How did Rotten Tree approach it?
We treated each film like a mini-narrative: simple, direct, and rooted in realism.
Characters were cast to look authentic and familiar
Locations were chosen to reflect real socio-cultural environments
Dialogue maintained a natural, conversational tone
Tension was built subtly through pacing rather than dramatic exaggeration
1090’s intervention was positioned as supportive, not heroic
The goal was to make viewers feel:
“This could happen to someone I know, and 1090 can help.”
Impact & Usage
This campaign was deployed across:
Government outreach programs
District-level awareness drives
Police & helpline officer training sessions
Social media channels
Community sensitisation efforts
